1. Introduction
India is set to celebrate the world's biggest festival of democracy as the voting for General Elections 2024 commences tomorrow. The Election Commission of India has made all preparations to welcome voters to this grand event, which will see the elections to the 18th Lok Sabha and Legislative Assemblies in four states starting with Phase 1.
2. Preparations for General Elections 2024
The Election Commission has undertaken two years of rigorous preparations for the General Elections 2024. This has involved numerous consultations, reviews, field visits, extensive training of officials, and the implementation of new operating procedures. The Commission has collaborated with a large spectrum of agencies and organizations nationwide to ensure the best possible experience for India's electors.
3. Phase 1 Details
Phase 1 of the elections will cover 102 Lok Sabha seats, with 16.63 crore voters and 1.87 lakh polling stations. A total of 18 lakh personnel will be deployed for this phase. Polling for Phase-I of the General Elections 2024 will be held on 19th of April, 2024, for 102 Parliamentary Constituencies (General- 73; ST- 11 ;SC-18) in 21 States/ UTs and 92 Assembly Constituencies in the State Assembly Elections in Arunachal and Sikkim. Voting begins at 7 AM and ends at 6 PM (Closure of Poll timings may differ PC wise).

The Election Commission reiterates its uncompromising commitment to deliver a free, fair, peaceful, accessible, participative, and inducement-free poll. The Commission and its teams across States and Union Territories have put in necessary hard work and meticulous interventions to ensure a smooth run of the elections.
